Root Canals

A tooth that is badly decayed or infected may be in need of a root canal.

Your tooth's nerve and pulp can become infected, inflamed, or irritated due to decay; large fillings, a crack or even a chip. Even some traumas can necessitate the procedure.
Nerve and pulp are removed from inside the tooth which is then cleaned and sealed. Without treatment and abscess may form as tissue surrounding the tooth becomes infected.
The missing nerve will not affect how your tooth works. It's only function is sensory, giving you the sensation of hot or cold.
